Plank to push-up.

Stability of the spine is necessary for preventing pain and enhancing performance (Liebenson, 2006; McGill, 2006). Core muscle endurance is a key quality to train. Many exercises have been developed for the core including traditional ones such as sit-ups which have been recently called into question (McGill, 2006). Training the spine in a neutral posture which reinforces the natural upright cur...

Tarski's Plank Problem Revisited

In the 1930's, Tarski introduced his plank problem at a time when the field Discrete Geometry was about to born. It is quite remarkable that Tarski's question and its variants continue to generate interest in the geometric and analytic aspects of coverings by planks in the present time as well. The paper is a survey type with a list of open research problems.

The PLANK: Designing a simple Haptic Controller

Active force-feedback holds the potential for precise and rapid controls. A high performance device can be built from a surplus disk drive and controlled from an inexpensive microcontroller. Our new design,The Plank has only one axis of force-feedback with limited range of motion. It is being used to explore methods of feeling and directly manipulating sound waves and spectra suitable for live ...

h: A Plank for Higher-order Attribute Contraction Schemes

We present and formalize h, a core (or"plank") calculus that can serve as the foundation for several compiler specification languages, notably CRSX (Combinatory Reductions Systems with eXtensions), HACS (Higher-order Attribute Contraction Schemes), and TransScript. We discuss how the h typing and formation rules introduce the necessary restrictions to ensure that rewriting is well-defined, even...

The Plank Problem for Symmetric Bodies

Given a symmetric convex body C and n hyperplanes in an Euclidean space, there is a translate of a multiple of C, at least 1 n+1 times as large, inside C, whose interior does not meet any of the hyperplanes. The result generalizes Bang's solution of the plank problem of Tarski and has applications to Diophantine approximation.
